Servco Donates Nearly $24,000 in Proceeds from Vintage Toyota Sport Bag Sales to Local Nonprofits

February 10, 2020

HONOLULU – Servco Pacific Inc. (Servco) donated nearly $24,000 in profits to local nonprofits from the sale of its vintage Toyota Sport Bag as part of its 100th anniversary. Servco brought back its iconic Toyota Sport Bag and released a limited-edition design of the vintage duffel with a few modern additions. The commemorative bags were available for purchase at all Servco dealerships throughout 2019. Proceeds from the sales on Oahu, Maui, and Kauai were donated to Palama Settlement, Big Brothers Big Sisters Maui, and Big Brothers Big Sisters and Kauai, respectively.

The Toyota Sport Bag dates back to the 1960s, when second-generation Servco president, Tom Fukunaga, saw children from Palama Settlement carrying their baseball gear to games in their arms. He created a program to provide free athletic bags to youth sports teams, and from the 1960s to the 1990s, Servco gave away tens of thousands of bags per year to youth athletes across Hawaii.

Servco donated over $22,000 to Palama Settlement, $1,500 to Big Brothers Big Sisters Kauai, and $200 to Big Brothers Big Sisters Maui.

“We are incredibly thankful to Servco for its longstanding friendship and dedication to the community,” said Conrad Loui, executive director of Palama Settlement. “This generous contribution will support our education and enrichment programs for children, especially bolstering the Pakolea Program, our football, basketball, and volleyball program for at-risk youth. Servco’s support will also help make it possible for us to revive Training Table, a program which provides a nutritionally balanced meal for our athletes after practice.”

“We were excited to partner with both Palama Settlement and Big Brothers Big Sisters this year,” said Rick Ching, president and COO of Servco. “Bringing back the iconic Toyota sport bag was a fun way to celebrate our centennial and this program was a special reminder of our history and commitment to the Hawaii community.”
