Servco Pacific Inc. Launches “Wheels in Action” Program to Support Mobility Needs After Kona Low Storms

April 16, 2026

HONOLULU, Hawai‘i — In response to the devastating Kona low storms that caused severe flooding across Oʻahu, Servco Pacific Inc. today announced the launch of its “Wheels in Action” program, an initiative that will loan 15 vehicles to families impacted by the disaster, helping to restore access to work, school, medical care, and other essential daily needs.

The program, part of Servco’s Servco Cares community initiative, offers short-term access to a shared fleet of 15 Toyota and Subaru vehicles to support families with immediate transportation needs during a critical period of recovery and rebuilding.

“Recovery takes time, and access to reliable transportation can make a meaningful difference for families working to rebuild,” said Mark Fukunaga, executive chair at Servco. “We have deep roots in Waialua, where Servco began more than 100 years ago, and we feel a responsibility to support the community in ways that are practical and responsive to current needs.”

The Wheels in Action program is being implemented in partnership with the Hawaiian Council and Bank of Hawai‘i. Servco is providing families with safe, reliable transportation, immediately available from its inventory at no cost to participating families. The Hawaiian Council is leading on-the-ground program administration, including outreach, eligibility, and vehicle distribution, while Bank of Hawai‘i is supporting the program’s leases to make vehicle access simple and manageable.

Eligible individuals and families may receive temporary no-cost use of the vehicle for short-term, everyday use through this program. This support is available to O‘ahu residents whose vehicles were destroyed by the storms. Priority will be given to households with kūpuna or children.

“Recovery does not end after the initial response,” said Kūhiō Lewis, CEO of the Hawaiian Council. “For many families, this is when the real challenges begin, and losing a vehicle makes it even harder to get to work, care for their children, support kūpuna and access medical care. We are grateful to Servco and Bank of Hawai‘i for stepping up to meet this need and for recognizing how critical transportation is to our communities’ ability to recover.”

A recent needs assessment conducted by the Hawaiian Council identified nearly 200 households highlighting transportation as a critical barrier to recovery. The Wheels in Action program is designed to provide immediate relief while longer-term solutions are being developed to support residents facing ongoing recovery challenges.

“Transportation quickly becomes one of the biggest hurdles after a disaster, and we’re proud to be part of a solution that’s practical and rooted in the immediate needs of the community,” said Bank of Hawai‘i President and CEO Jim Polk. “We hope this helps families regain some stability during a very difficult time.”

Vehicles will initially be staged and distributed at the Waialua Recovery Center at the Waialua Courthouse, which was opened Monday by the Hawaiian Council to provide coordinated, community-based support for residents impacted by the flooding.
